CSGH Celebrates Its 10 th Anniversary!

The future is exciting! We Serve. We Care. We Excel. These are the taglines that highlight the celebration of the 10 th Anniversary of Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital coupled with adjunct grand Re-Opening Ceremony of the Culion Museum and Archives.

On 19 November 2019, a welcome program was held at the heritage Park located at the CSGH Compound. Prominent personalities graced the event. The presence of advocates namely; Dr. Ma. Vilma Diez, the Assistant Regional Director of MIMAROPA; Mr. Peter Sing, the Registered Financial Advisor and President of Palawenos Savers Club; Ms. Carmina Arevalo,

the Executive Director and OIC of the Office of the Executive Director of National Historical Commission of the Philippines; Ms. Raflesia Chiara Bravo, singer to the Culion Movie theme song; and the elected officials of the Local Government of Culion, have made the once-in-a-lifetime happening in Culion with the message from Secretary of Education.

The re-opening of the Culion Museum and Archives marked a prestigious event in the history of Culion. It is no ordinary considering that it does not only meticulously present the era of discrimination and social ostracism entwined in the lives of the people affected by leprosy, the roots of today’s Culion generation, but it also renders very accurate detail of every part of Culion

that evolves until the present era. With the state-of-the-art facility utilized in the museum and archives, one can vouch how Culion experienced the most dreadful and the most humiliating eyes of the society. Every gallery speaks of truth, triumph, and hope for Culion.

With all the inspiring messages uttered by the respected personalities, there is indeed a future for Culion that is exciting, without an ounce of a doubt. The battle has ended. The warriors who fought against the stigma had already achieved a triumphant glory. Truly, the darkest era had reached the sunrise of success and brighter future for Culion’s present generation. The Culion Museum and Archives is in itself a testimony of truth, and an open book that every person can learn from it, joyfully sympathize with, and compassionately embrace the bravery and struggles of the people of Culion challenged by sickness called leprosy.

Part of the program was the turn-over of records microfilm by Family Research Project 2000 by Bro. Flavir Ordinario. The Archival Records was received by Dr. Arturo Cunanan, Jr. representing the Culion Museum and Archives; the Baptismal Records was received by Fr. Adriano Tapiador, S.J. representing the Culion Parish, and the Birth and Death Records to the Local Civil Registrar was received by Hon. Ma. Virginia De Vera representing the Local Government of Culion.

Likewise, the glimmering Parade of Lights is also one of the most-awaited events of the 10 th Anniversary Celebration. The CSGH workforce have paid immeasurable effort to bring into clearer definition of their three 2-word statements which say: We serve. We care. We excel. One can deliberately say: there is excellence in their presentation, that is worth seeing. The entire workforce was divided into 4 teams: the Red Orchid Hall of Famer, Star Awards, ISO Certified and UNESCO Memories of the World. Each team have represented the excellent achievements of the Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital within the 10 years of service.

The efforts, the presentation, and the execution were all but reflections of what is CSGH now a days, in the light of service, care, and excellence.

With the leadership of Dr. Arturo Cunanan, the future is indeed exciting, for there are so much to witness in the next ten years or more.
